FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are listed the most common questions (and their respective answers) that dealers have. If your questions are not answered here, drop me a note and I will get back with you promptly.

How can one author cover fishing over such a wide area?

The books were compiled by asking local experts (tackle clerks):
What do beginners ask?
What do you answer?
The material was condensed into a Reader's Digest version (simple phrases and amply illustrated). Experience shows that the books answer 90% of the questions asked and the answers that they need.

If they are so good, why are they so cheap?

I thought up the idea, did the research, wrote the copy, did the type-setting and now the marketing, saving a lot of middleman mark-ups. Plus, the popularity and scope make the printing costs minimal.

How are TSH book different from other books?

Besides the obvious low cost, the books are the only ones made as a reference to be carried in your tackle box as a reference for the beginner or someone trying a new type of fishing or new area.

I run the sporting goods department and my clerks usually don't know much about fishing, how will TSH help me?

Let TSH be your expert; all you have to do is let them become familiar with content and where they are and you have a staff of experts right there at your disposal.

Why should I display them on my most valuable selling space?

They have proven to be the most profitable item on your valuable counter as they are high profit and high volume (a rarity in the tackle business). In addition, they are 100% extra business, high impulse and the clerks need to be reminded to use them properly.

Won't I sell a lot first, then sales fall off after I sell all the beginners the first time around?

Quite to the contrary, experience shows that the longer the books are in the store, the better they sell as clerks become familiar with their content and purpose. Some managers require the clerks to know the content and when the customers ask a question, that they hand them a book opened to the proper page. Then, if they have time, use the book to illustrate the questions: equipment, knots, rigs, etc. Sales in some shops are 500 annually.

As a tackle shop operator, I pride myself on my personal service to the prospective fisherman. Why do I need TSH?

It's great when you have time, to spend time with a prospective fisherman, but people learn best when shown illustrations (most are already in the book), and, even better, it provides a great reference after they leave.

As a retailer in the north, how will they help me in the winter when I need all the sales I can get?

They make great Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers and, maybe, even a reference as the fisherman's version of cabin fever takes hold.

I've got a lot of fishing books on the rack in the back of the store. Why is TSH different and why should I display them separately?

If in the book department, there are two problems. First, being more reasonable, they will sell instead of regular books, and there is no way that you'll make as much on a $4 book as a $10 book (less profit, no gain). Secondly, the clerks ddon't have them at hand to hand to the questioner. Why trade bussiness when it can be extra business.

I've tried books before but they scattered all over the place and people walked off with them.

TSH furnishes attractive display boxes and price stickers so they are not only well displayed, but priced. In the worst case scenario, even if you lost 1/3 of the books, you'd still show a profit (match that with any other high volume item in your store).
